Career Counseling Experiences And Learning in ICCW

Career Counseling For 12th and 10th std underpriviledged Students!

ICCW career counseling session started on 1-Aug-2009 (saturday). There are totally 6 students(4 in 12th standard and 2 in 10th standard). Myself, Vivek and Naveen were there to have an ice breaking session with the students. It was first time of my life that i could realize the zeal and enthusiasm in young minds about their career. Since it was only first visit i dont have their names by heart but their faces are registered in my mind.

We showed them PPT about what is career and few slides about great scientist APJ.Abdul Kalam and Oscar winner A.R. Rahman. Then i asked them close their eyes and made them imagine as if their career is up and they have all become what they wanted to in their life...The students closed their eyes and they were dreaming about their future. After 10 minutes i asked them to open their eyes and started calling one by one in front of the crowd to hear what they imagined in that 10 mins.

The answers were brilliant and interesting. 1st student said he became an IAS officer , he saw so many villagers standing in his office to give petitions to him about their variuos issues and he had collected all the issues and started working on it by assuring the vilagers that all their problem would get solved very soon. 2nd student said he became a Doctor, he was wearing white coat and having a stethescope and treating sick people. 3rd student said he became a Software Engineer, he said he was in his office cabin with his own lap top and working seriuosly on his new software which he plans to develop on his own and sell it in the market. He was in his neatly iorned shirt and wearing tie and shoes. 4th student again said he become a Doctor, this guy was very smart he enacted to us what he was dreaming, he came in a car, parked it, came into the room where his patients were waiting smiled at them then went into his clinic and asked the nurse to call the patients one by one and started giving treatments to them. 5th and 6th student told they want to become computer engineers and said they were dreaming of owning software comapny.

This is only the begining the best is yet to follow. A counselor (Naveen) has agreed to counsel for the thenth standard students and am planning to take up the counseling for twelth. Our group has been named as STAR FRIENDS. Am sure all the six will come up very well in their life and we (counselors) are sure to do our best to help them achieve in life :)... I have planned to have the next meeting on this saturday... To know about their academics and other detailed informations to prepare an action plan on how to go forward will be planned according to next meeting.

English for uderpriviledged Children- Social responsibility

Every child deserves quality education, underprivileged children are not an exception.

To build a strong nation we have to work from the gross roots. Every individual need to have atleast twenty five percentage of social responsibility- It could be anything from planting trees/plants, teaching kids, giving food/shelter for the needy, helping aged person, etc the list is a long one. Always remember Only small droplets join to form ocean. This year I have chosen to teach underpriviledged children the basics of English.
Let me share my most treasured moments of life.We work as a team. We call ourselves MAD people [Make A Difference]. My team consists of 14 people who have committed for the cause. Ice Breaker games with the kids was amazing. We played games with the kids and the best game was asking them to do paper boats. The children right from 2nd stardard to 12th standard participated in this game very actively. There are about 50 kids in that home. They all go to government schools where in they are not confident about their english skills. Our small effort of giving them knowledge is with a hope that it will help them to build their self confidence and fetch them a decent job during their job hunting phase of life.
We have decided to go there every saturday/sunday and teach them english. Our mission is to make them speak in english fluently and confidently, am sure to achieve the target on time:)... These kids are very energitic their thirst to know about new things is enormous and unimaginable. In the first visit to the place we were put in situation of interacting with the about 6 deaf and dumb kids... Can you believe they were very interactive and understood things very quickly. But we wont be able to teach these kids as we are not trained for it. But one thing which i learnt is that they do not like to be seperated from the lot, they want to be with every other normal kid and tried to behave like anyone else though they had a bit of difficulty. It was a wonderful feeling to see them win the games :)...
I am looking forward for the treasurable moments am going to gain from these kids in this year. So friends i am very happy and excited when i think about it. I can proudly say that i am a very reponsible adult of mother earth. My prayers for such kids who should be blessed by God to acheive their heart's desire. We are there to help them and am sure They can and they will. Jai Hind!!!

My First Experience of Riding "CD DAWN" Men's Bike

Every fresh experience energises our soul. I am happy to share my first experience of riding "CD DAWN" the so called Men's bike. Being a girl I have been driving Scooty PEP Plus for the past 3 years and always wanted to drive Bike with manual gear. On one fine sunday evening i decided to ride the bike... I was excited to learn about the working of bike Gear and the way we have to switch over gears to increase/decrease speeds and neutral to halt,etc... Initially the bike was in neutral and i felt a bit difficult to kick start the bike since i always used only automatic button to start my scooty pep plus. Alas after 3 tries i successfully started the bike and the joy i experienced at that moment was abundant... then i managed to change the gear by holding on the clutch. Initially it was a bit confusing as to when i should hold the clutch and when to release it as sometimes my bike suddenly stopped when i left the clutch abruptly while changing gears... The fun part was i sometimes even forgot and got confused about the way i have to apply break... Instead of applying break i used to hold on to the clutch and blink as to why the bike is not stopping... Fortunately the road was empty and so i did not dash on anyone. Once i gained confidence i easily accelerated and increased the speed... WOW i was feeling as though i have acheived something great and was so happy to go in that speed which i have not even thought of. Now its like when ever i see a bike i feel like test driving it :) Experince of driving in the traffic near anna nagar was equally fun and thrilling... Initially i was a bit nervous but i was very careful and cautious... People on the road were looking at me with amazement in their eyes... I was on top of the world and very happy :)...
